Fellowship Meal, Daylight Savings Time – This Sunday!

November 2, 2018

Dear Church Family & Friends,

Daylight savings time ends on Saturday at midnight! Please remember to turn you clock back 1 hour on Saturday before going to bed on Saturday. Thankfully this means that each one of us will have an extra hour this weekend! What will you do with your extra hour? I think that I will get an extra hour of sleep!

This Sunday we will have our monthly Lord’s Supper (communion) and Fellowship Meal! Please plan to come and stay following the service for some good food and great fellowship. I really want to encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity. This is a great opportunity to get to know members of the congregation that you may not know as well. Please bring a dish of food (or two) to share with others!

We will also celebrate the Lord’s Supper on Sunday. Paul teaches: 1Co 11:26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” The Greek word in 1 Cor. 11:26 for “proclaim” is literally “re-message.” This means that whenever we celebrate the Lord’s Supper we are revealing and making public the mystery and the power of the cross of Jesus! Something powerful happens when we do this. In order to understand this we must ask the question: What happened at the cross? At the cross Jesus obtained power over death (Heb. 2:14.) By the cross God gave all authority in heaven and earth to Him (Mat. 28:18!) How was this power and authority gained? By dying to self! By partaking of the bread and drinking of His cup we also agree to participate in the Kingdom as He did!

The Lord’s Supper is critical to understanding what it means to be followers of Jesus. Paul prays: “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11  and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” (Phil. 3:10) This is following Jesus! We not only symbolically participate with Jesus in communion but by it we proclaim that the power of God is not separate from dying to self. Paul sets it up so clearly when he says: “If we died with Him, we will also live with Him; 12  if we endure with Him, we will also reign with Him. If we disown Him, He will also disown us..” (2 Tim 2:11-12) By partaking of the bread (His broken body) and drinking the cup (His shed blood) we declare that we are partners with Him -in the revelation of His power and also in His pattern of dying to self. Please prepare your heart to receive the Lord’s Supper on Sunday morning.

Our harvest party was a success thanks to Jean Marie, Carol and Joanne A!! I understand that the kids of all ages that attended had a great time! There was good food, games and prizes! I was able to get in on the tail end of the event because of my work schedule. We will also be planning on having a Christmas Party in December. Please stay tuned for the date of this celebration event!

Our Church Directory is almost finished thanks to Jean Marie! I want to personally thank Jean Marie for selflessly serving as our church logistics expert for the past month. Jean Marie has been producing the bulletin and working on the directory as well as some other long overdue projects during the past month. What a blessing she has been for us as a church family!

Jim Printz will be bringing the message next Sunday! It is such a privilege to see God raising Jim up to serve in ministry. Please be praying for Jim as he prepares to share the Word with us next Sunday.

See you on Sunday,

Pastor Jon Quesenberry
