Dear RCC Family & Friends,
Today is the last day of our three day fast! Tomorrow night (Thursday at 6:30pm) is our Communion and Footwashing. I am excited about what God will do as we seek Him in brokenness. God uses fasting to change history. The call to fast in found in Joel 2…
“Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. 16 Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders… (Joel 2:12-13,16)
Coming humbly before the Lord in prayer comes with a promise: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Tomorrow we will gather at the church at 6:30pm for a time of prayer, communion and then foot washing. Our plan is to gather in a circle for a time of prayer and waiting on the Lord. Following this prayer time we will plan to take communion together and then wash one another’s feet. Please plan to come! I know that footwashing may not be comfortable for some who have never done it. I would encourage you to simply come and participate in humbleness with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Now truly is the time for humble expressions of love one for another. These gatherings for mutual prayer, communion and serving one another in foot washing are very biblical.
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” (John 13:14-15)
Footwashing was practiced by the early church for hundreds of years. We also received a discernment from the Lord to do this at our last prayer meeting. I believe that this event will be a transforming one for our congregation. I hope that everyone will be able to come.
Blessings as you fast today and we will look forward to good fellowship in prayer, communion and true fellowship tomorrow night (Thursday)at 6:30 pm.
