Following Jesus Series:

We meet to Encounter God in worship and prayer and discovery of His Word.

Following Jesus Series: We will be looking at what it truly means to be a follower of Jesus. Jesus primary ministry was not focused on big meetings or teaching the multitudes. Jesus spent most of His time and energy mentoring and making disciples. Good teaching can influence thinking but discipleship profoundly affects patterns of thought, beliefs and changes behavior for life. Early believers discovered that “conversion” was not the primary goal of Jesus and the early church. The primary goal of the early church for the first 300 years was to “follow Jesus” personally (as a lifestyle) and as a society of believers. As a result the early disciples experienced miracles signs and wonders. They were not Christians as we are today. They believed that they were “followers of the Way!”

The Bible teaches that there are SEVEN characteristics of disciples of Jesus. Each week we  will explore these characteristics in depth.  Following Jesus is a lifestyle. It is a daily and intimate pursuit. Jesus lived a life of intimacy with the Father and taught His disciples to seek God as a primary life calling. Discipleship is following God as Jesus did.

You are invited to spend the next 6 weeks in discovery to learn and practice the principles of the Kingdom of God!

Knowing God and Hearing Him

Whose voice are you listening to?  There are many well-meaning voices speaking to us each day, but there is only One true voice that we need to be hearing…the voice of our heavenly Father.

God had given Abram (soon to become Abraham) a vision that he would have descendants as numerous as the stars in the heavens…and that those descendants would come through his own seed…Isaac.  However, Abram listened to a well-meaning voice, that of his wife Sarai, that he should have relations with her own maidservant, Hagar, so that they could have a child.  Rather than being obedient to the Father and waiting for what He promised, Abram agreed to what Sarai had said and she bore a child, Ishmael.

Often times we get impatient with God.  He has given us a word or a vision of His plans, and we are patient to an extent, but don’t always wait for Him to accomplish things in His time.  He may need to take us through the dark valley of discipline in order for His vision to be accomplished…and so we must wait and continue listening, remaining true to our Solid Foundation…God Himself.

We must be built on God, not listening to the positive or negative voices that seemingly want to try to influence our vision, our life, and our calling.  The Psalmist said “Be still my soul, and know that He is God” (Psalm 46:10).  In the midst of the vocal hurricane swirling about us, may we stand firmly in His eye and await His final word on all circumstances.  Amen.
